JORDI FORNAS MARTINEZ
Barcelona, 1927-2011
He studied at the School of Fine Arts Sant Jordi in Barcelona, where he obtained the title of professor graduate at
the end of 40. In 1949 he received a scholarship from the Foundation Amigo Cuyàs a scholarship by Spain and
Scholarship at the residence of painters of Granada.
During the period from 1949 to 1954 went to live in Ibiza, where detoxifying many of the concepts dictated in the
School of Fine Arts of the Franco era. There he got rid of all academicism and found freedom, both personally and
creatively. This step will mark the Ibizan life. It was during this period that he exhibited, along with the sculptor and
painter Isern Aleu, the National Gallery in Oslo under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.
In 1954 he returned to Barcelona in 1955 and received a grant from the French Institute that allowed him to be
installed • Install a season in Paris. Now back to Barcelona, we were commissioned to decorate with murals of the
apse of the church Montroig (Teruel). During these years, the exhibition activity focused on participation in various
exhibitions municipal level, in the Hispano-American Biennial of Art Salons October and May in Barcelona, in
several editions.
From 1960, he devoted himself entirely to the graphic design, since its co-operation with publishers • the country
became one of the leading makers of aesthetic renewal in Catalan publications. During this time he was the
principal designer of the image of 62 editions, designing col • collections as emblematic as "The tail of straw",
"Kangaroo" "Books available" or "Great Catalan Encyclopedia" among others, and incorporating modern design and
groundbreaking. In 1964 he commissioned the design of the magazine Serra d'Or as well as several collections col
• Publications of the Abbey of Montserrat.

The result of this intense work as a designer, was awarded the FAD Delta Awards for the design of book jackets
and covers albums.
In 1975 he returned to painting completely renovated and began working in the field of sculpture, activities
continued to develop until the day of his death on 1 September 2011. On the latter period is its participation in the
exhibition of ancient scholars of the French Government in Tinell Hall, organized by the French Institute.
At the end of 2004 organized the exhibition open workshop, which took place in his studio, where he presented
more than 300 works: a comprehensive tour of his career as a painter and sculptor.
In early 2006 opened at the Space Guinovart Agramunt, which will be the last show in public life.
In 2013 inaugurated the exhibition Jordi Fornas, the painter, the Art Space Pere Pruna Montserrat Museum, a
collection of thirty paintings and sculptures, curated by Silvia Muñoz of Imbert.
The last exhibition flèxums and Doors, Joan Pedragosa and Jordi Fornas (January 2015) to Volart Space
Foundation Vila Casas, was conceived as a space of confluence between two figures renovated between the sixties
and seventies, the language and the plastic volume from graphic design. It had as curators Gloria Bosch, art
director of the Foundation Vila Casas and the critic and essayist Julia Guillamon.
